Dad-Force: How to Train When You’re Tired (And Still Show Up for Your Family)
Share
You’re not lazy. You’re overloaded.
Being a dad means carrying things people don’t always see.
The bills.
The schedule.
The pressure to provide.
The responsibility to stay emotionally available when you’re already exhausted.
Lately, life has been heavy for our family.
Packing boxes.
Preparing for a move from Kentucky to Michigan.
Basketball tournaments.
Long workdays.
Trying to build FitForce while still showing up for our kids every day.
Some days we feel tired before the morning even starts.
And honestly, that’s why this blog matters to us.
Because Dad-Force was never about having perfect routines.
It was built from real life.
Real fitness doesn’t happen in perfect conditions
A lot of our workouts lately haven’t looked impressive.
Sometimes it’s:
- a quick jog before work
- 20 minutes at Planet Fitness
- squeezing in a lift after basketball practice
- walking while mentally planning the next move
- training tired because life doesn’t slow down
And we’ve realized something important:
That still counts.
The people who stay healthy long-term usually are not the people with perfect schedules.
They’re the people who keep finding ways to return.
Even during stressful seasons.
Dad-Force means showing your kids what consistency looks like
One of the biggest reasons we keep training is because our kids are watching everything.
They watch:
- how we handle pressure
- how we respond to stress
- whether we quit on ourselves
- how we take care of our health
- how we recover from hard weeks
Chelsea sees the discipline.
Kingston sees the effort.
Not because every workout is amazing.
But because we keep trying anyway.
That’s the real message behind Dad-Force.
Not perfection.
Not six-packs.
Not pretending life is easy.
Just showing up.
Again and again.
The system helping us survive busy seasons
We stopped expecting every workout to be “perfect.”
That mindset burns parents out.
Now we use a simpler system.
Level 1 — The “At Least I Moved” Workout (10 Minutes)
This is for the overwhelming days.
- 20 squats
- 10 push-ups
- 20 walking lunges
- 30-second plank
- quick walk or jog
No pressure.
Just movement.
Because movement clears stress instead of adding to it.
Level 2 — The “Real Session” Workout (25–35 Minutes)
This is our most common workout lately.
Usually:
- leg press
- chest press
- rows or pull-downs
- incline walk or jog
Simple. Repeatable. Effective.
This level has honestly carried us through some exhausting weeks.
Level 3 — The “Good Day” Workout (45–60 Minutes)
These happen when life finally gives us breathing room.
We’ll add:
- accessory work
- conditioning
- core
- longer cardio
But we no longer believe every workout has to look like this to matter.
That mindset changed everything for us.
Moving taught us something important
This season taught us that fitness is less about “extra time” and more about protecting your energy.
Because when we completely stop moving:
- stress feels heavier
- patience gets shorter
- sleep gets worse
- motivation disappears
Training helps us stay grounded during chaos.
Even short workouts help mentally.
Especially during uncertain seasons.

This week’s challenge: just don’t disappear from yourself
That’s it.
Not perfection.
Not extreme fitness.
Just don’t completely abandon yourself while taking care of everyone else.
This week:
- get 3 workouts in
- take walks
- stretch
- drink your water
- protect your energy
Even if it’s messy.
Especially if it’s messy.
Final Thoughts
Dad-Force isn’t about pretending life is easy.
It’s about staying strong while life is hard.
And if you’re balancing work, parenting, stress, exhaustion, and still trying to show up for yourself and your family…
You’re already living it.
